About us

Community,
at the centre
of everything.

Jahsar Association CIC is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company that manages Greaves Square Community Centre in Kings Norton, South Birmingham. We exist for one reason — the people who live here.

Our founding purpose

"To enable people in this area to enjoy where they live, to feel included, to socialise, and to take part in meaningful activities that support their wellbeing."
Mission statement

Who we are and why we're here.

Our work, our purpose, and our commitment are centred entirely on the community — the people who live here, the families who rely on local services, and the individuals who simply want to feel connected, supported, and included.

We are a registered Community Interest Company made up of a retired social worker, a teacher, and three dedicated volunteers. What brings us together is a shared passion — and a firm belief that every person in this community deserves a space where they feel they belong.

We're proud to manage Greaves Square Community Centre, a landmark of Kings Norton life. After years of uncertainty, we restored it and reopened the doors with a renewed purpose — to serve the people who never stopped needing it.

Everything we do is shaped by the community, for the community. We work closely with local partners including Barnardo's and Antoine Care Ltd to deliver programmes that make a real and lasting difference to people's lives — whether that's a coffee morning that keeps loneliness at bay, a Stay & Play session for a new parent, or simply a familiar, welcoming space to come back to.

The team

People who care, doing the work.

Jahsar Association CIC is made up of five people united by a shared belief that communities thrive when people are given the space, support and opportunities to come together.

Retired Social Worker

Decades of frontline experience working with vulnerable people and families across Birmingham. Brings deep understanding of community need and how to respond to it with compassion and care.

Teacher

A background in education brings clarity of purpose and a commitment to creating environments where people can grow, learn and feel genuinely supported — whatever their starting point.

Three dedicated volunteers

Local people who give their time, energy and expertise because they believe in what Greaves Square stands for — a place that belongs to everyone in this community, not just a few.

What we stand for

The principles that guide everything we do.

// 01

Inclusion

Everyone is welcome here — regardless of age, background, ability or circumstance. We actively work to ensure no one in this community is left behind or left out.

// 02

Community ownership

As a Community Interest Company, all of our work is accountable to the people we serve. The community doesn't just benefit — it shapes what we do and how we do it.

// 03

Wellbeing first

We know that feeling connected and having somewhere to go makes a real difference to people's mental and physical health. That belief drives every programme we deliver.

// 04

Local partnership

We can't do this alone — and we don't try to. We work alongside trusted local organisations, funders and volunteers who share our commitment to Kings Norton and its people.
